I wonder if the manufacturers of these Finger Puppet Googly Eyes are aware of this trend in the crochet world! They'd be quite surprised, I think!! 🙂

I've seen a lot of people asking where they could find patterns to use for these Finger Puppet Googly Eyes, so I decided to scour the internet, see what's out there and put all I could find in this blog post for you.

I wrote a pattern up myself: called the Finger Puppet Eyes Worry Worm Pattern.

What are Finger Puppet Googly Eyes?

Finger Puppet Googly Eyes (sometimes called Google Eye Rings or Oobi Eyes) are small plastic finger puppets originally intended to be used for stage and puppet theater, storytelling, role-play games, as a preschool education tool or even as a speech & therapy tool for children with autism. They also work as decorations and party favors for birthdays and other celebrations.

The idea for using googly eyes as finger puppets first emerged with a TV series called "Oobi" that aired in 2000 on Noggin (now known as Nick Jr.) in the United States.

Frequently Asked Questions About

Can I use finger puppet googly eyes for any crochet project?

People mostly use finger puppet googly eyes to crochet small fun creatures, but you can get as creative as you like! This cute accessory can add some real pop to your crochet characters and other items like stuffed animals, keychains, or decorative items.

How do I attach finger puppet googly eyes securely to my crochet project?

There are several ways you can attach your finger puppet googly eyes to your crochet project. Most projects begin by tying a slip knot around the ring or nose part of the googly eyes and start crocheting the beginning stitches around that section. Other patterns incorporate the finger puppet eyes at a later stage. Just follow the instructions of the pattern you are wanting to make step-by-step and it'll explain exactly how to attach your finger puppet eyes to your crochet project.

Can I wash crochet items with finger puppet googly eyes?

It's generally recommended to hand wash or spot clean crochet items with attached finger puppet googly eyes. Machine washing may damage the eyes.

Are finger puppet googly eyes safe for children's toys and gifts?

I wouldn't recommend giving a crocheted item that includes finger puppet googly eyes to a child under the age of 3 because the transparent part of the eyes can easily come off, therefore posing a choking hazard

If you're making your crochet items for kids above the age of 3, it should be absolutely alright for them to play with it. If you properly attach and secure the finger puppet googly eyes, they can be safe for children's toys and gifts. Always use your best judgment when giving crochet gifts to children.

How do I choose the right size of finger puppet googly eyes for my project?

The size of the eyes depends on the size and style of your crochet project. There are several sizes of these finger puppet googly eyes on the market, so make sure you check the pattern instructions before you buy the eyes. If the size is not indicated in the pattern, then you can get in touch with the designer to ask what size they used.
