No Fuss, Just Fun

Looking for an easy ear warmer crochet pattern for beginners? I made this super cute and cozy twist ear warmer for my daughter when she decided to grow out her bangs. This ear warmer keeps her hair out of her face and makes her feel warm and stylish at school!
This quick and beginner-friendly project is perfect for making thoughtful gifts or creating one for yourself in your favorite colors to match your winter wardrobe!
If you're new to crochet, this project is a breeze. All you need to know are the basics: how to crochet a chain, half double crochet (hdc) and half double crochet in the back loop only (hdcblo)!
This will create that wonderful ribbing effect on your ear warmer, just like the cuffs on sweater sleeves, giving the ear warmer plenty of stretch and a snug fit.
Make sure to size your ear warmer slightly smaller than the head circumference for a comfortable fit with negative ease. I made this one for my 8-year-old daughter, so it’s sized for a child, but you can use the sizing chart below to adjust for any age or size.

Easy Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern Instructions
Tie a slip knot on your hook. Ch 50 + 1. (The last chain serves as the turning chain).
Note: Adjust the number of ch sts to match the desired circumference for the ear warmer. The finished chain should be about 1–2 inches (2.5–5 cm) smaller than the head circumference to account for negative ease.
Row 1: Hdc into the 2nd ch from your hook and into each chain st across. Ch 1, turn. (50 sts)
Rows 2-9: Hdc into the back loop only (hdcblo) of each stitch across. Ch 1, turn. (50 sts per row). Note: To crochet into the back loops only, insert your hook between the front and back loops of the "v"s of your hdc stitches.
Check the width of your ear warmer. If you'd like it to be wider, then add another row or two.
Leave a long 10" tail after your last row to use for sewing the ends together.
Finishing – Creating the Twist
Align the Ends: Lay the ear warmer flat and align the short ends.
Fold each short end in half widthwise so that both ends form a “U” shape.
Position the Ends: Slide the folded ends together:
- Place one folded end inside the other, ensuring all layers align.
- You should now have four layers overlapping each other.
Sew the Layers Together: Using a yarn needle and the long yarn tail:
- Sew through all four layers, stitching securely across the width of the ear warmer.
- You can use a whipstitch or a running stitch—whatever feels comfortable.
Fasten Off: Leaving a 4" tail, cut your yarn and fasten off. Weave in your end securely.
Flip Right Side Out: Turn the ear warmer right side out so the seam is hidden, and the twist appears in the center.
And voila! You've got yourself a pretty ear warmer! Who are you going to give it to? Let me know in the comments below.
I hope you enjoyed this pattern! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Happy hooking!
