Gauge
16 stitches and 10 rows = 10 cm x 10 cm (4") in dc with 4 mm hook
Yardage
Approx. 35 m (38 yards)
Notes
- Use any type of yarn to achieve gauge.
- Try to crochet over your yarn tails so you don’t have to weave them in later.
- Ch 2 at the beginning of a row does not count as a stitch.
- Experiment with using the stacked single crochet technique instead of a ch 2 at the beginning of a row for cleaner edges.
- Please note that I use US crochet terms.

Christmas Hand Warmer Crochet Pattern Instructions
Main Section
With Color A (beige), tie a sl knot on your hook, Ch 30 (30)
R 1: In the third ch from your hook, work a dc, dc across, turn (28)
R 2-12: Ch 2, dc across, turn (28)
Leave a short tail to weave in, cut yarn and fasten off.

Top & Bottom Stripes
R 13: Attach Color B (red), ch 2, dc across (28)
Note: Try to work over your yarn tails so you don't have to weave them in later.
Leave a 4” tail (to stitch the 2 sides together and weave in later), cut yarn and fasten off.

Fold your piece in half with Color B on the top (horizontal) and check if it fits around your hand comfortably. If you need more length, add more rows (either in Color B on the top, or Color A on the bottom).

Turn project upside down, attach Color B to the beginning of your initial Chain.
Ch 2, dc across. You’ll be working into the chain for this row.
Note: Try to work over your yarn tails so you don't have to weave them in later.
Leave a 4” tail to stitch the 2 sides together and weave in, cut yarn and fasten off.

Joining the Sides
Cut a piece of yarn (Color A) about 3 times the width of your project and thread it on your darning needle.

Fold your piece in half (with Color B on the top & bottom) and whip stitch from R 2 to R 6 joining the 2 sides neatly. (You’ll be working into the side stitches of your project so the stitches are not as defined as the tops of stitches). Use stitch markers to mark Rows 1, 6, 10 & 12.

Pass your needle carefully through one side of your project only from R 7 to R 9, then continue to join the 2 sides again from R 10 to R 12.

Join 2 sides R 2 to 6

Join both sides R 10 to 12

Pass through one side only R 7 to 9

R 10 to 12 Joined
Remove stitch markers.
With the tails you left from Color B, work an invisible join to join the 2 sides, then a couple of more whip stitches to close the remaining gap. Repeat for the other end of the hand warmer.

Weave in all ends carefully, cut excess and flip your hand warmer inside out.
Repeat instructions for second glove.

Mini Christmas Wreath Embellishment
We’ll be adding a tiny Christmas wreath appliqué to these hand warmers. You may substitute with any other appliqué of your choice to fit the season.
Change to 3.5 mm hook and DK yarn in green & red.
With green, tie a slip knot on your hook and ch 6, sl st to join and form a circle (6)

R 1: Ch 1,10 sc into the circle, sl st to join (10)
Note: Try to crochet over your yarn tail so you don't have to weave it in later.

R 2: [ch 2, sl st into the next st] x 10
Leave a 4” tail, cut yarn and fasten off.

Option 1: Embellish with red yarn & needle
Cut an arm’s length of red yarn, thread through your darning needle. Leave a long tail at the beginning and stitch in and out of each stitch around your wreath. Tie a bow at the top of the wreath.

Option 2: Embellish with red yarn & hook
Alternatively, you could work sl st surface crochet stitches on top of R 1. In that case, do not cut your red yarn before starting your surface crochet stitches. Just make sure to leave a long beginning tail so it's easy to tie a bow in the end. Here’s a video tutorial on how to work sl st surface crochet.
Cut excess yarn and tie a bow at the top of your wreath.

Use the wreath ends to attach to the front of your hand warmers with a darning needle.
Try making these hand warmers in different colors and attach other festive appliqués. If you'd like the pattern for this tiny Santa Hat Appliqué, click here.

This pattern is very well written and easy for the beginner crocheted to follow. It works up easily and fast. It makes a perfect gift for all those cold weather states to keep hands warm. You can adjust this to fit a smaller hand if the need arises. I enjoyed making this pattern and will definitely use again for my family and friends up north.
