Are Woobles Kits Worth the Price?
A Cost Breakdown vs. Buying Supplies Separately

Thinking about buying a Woobles crochet kit but not sure if it’s worth the price?

This is a question that's been floating around social media for a long time. Many beginners wonder if they should invest in a kit or just grab yarn and a hook from the craft store.

If you read through the comments section of someone asking this question on FB or Reddit, you'll see so many different opinions. But I think it all depends on the commenter's skill level and what exactly they value. Is it the materials themselves, the learning process or what exactly?

In this post, I’ll break down the real cost of a Woobles kit compared to buying supplies separately. You’ll see exactly what’s included, what you’d spend on your own, and whether the value makes sense for you.

After you look through all the info below, the choice is yours...

The Woobles Learn To Crochet Kits For Beginners

What Is a Woobles Kit?

Woobles kits are beginner-friendly crochet kits designed to make learning easy. The goal: help beginners finish a project they can actually be proud of.

Each kit comes with everything you need in one box: yarn, hook, stuffing, safety eyes, needle, and step-by-step instructions in both written and video format.

The yarn is special. It doesn’t split like regular yarn, so stitches are easier to see. This is really important for someone just starting out with crochet.

Every kit includes access to video tutorials that walk you through each step, even if you’ve never held a hook before. Every step is explained slowly, which makes it super easy to follow, even for kids!

How Much Does a Woobles Kit Cost?

Most Woobles kits cost between $30 and $40 USD.

The price depends on the character you choose and whether you need the crochet hook included. If this is your first kit, you will want to include the hook. Most kits use the same hook size, so you might want to skip the hook if you purchase more than one kit for the same person.

Shipping is extra, but they often run free shipping deals or bundles, so sign up to their newsletter to get updates on that.

And make sure to opt-in to the Wee Woobly Bits tin! It's so cute and incredibly practical. You can keep all the little bits like safety eyes, tapestry needles and stitch markers in there.

At first glance, the price might feel high for a small crochet project. But remember, you’re paying for more than just yarn and a hook.

What You Get Inside a Woobles Kit

Every Woobles kit includes:

  • Custom yarn: pre-cut, no waste, easy to use.
  • Ergonomic crochet hook: comfortable and beginner-friendly (optional if you already own one).
  • Plastic safety eyes + stuffing: all the extras to bring your character to life.
  • Tapestry needle + stitch marker: the small tools you need to complete your project.
  • Printed pattern + online tutorials: step-by-step videos made for absolute beginners + the option to print out the pattern.

Nothing extra to buy. Nothing missing. You open the box and start right away.

Buying Supplies Separately: A Price Breakdown

You can buy crochet supplies at craft stores or online. But the cost adds up quickly when you’re starting from scratch and you'll probably have a lot of extras you don't really need to complete one project.

Here’s what you’d typically spend:

Total: $25–$50 for supplies you may not fully use.

And that doesn’t include the time spent choosing the right yarn, finding a pattern, or figuring it all out alone.  That in itself is quite an effort! Trust me! AND, you might end up with a bad pattern or even worse, an AI generated one!  If you're not an experience pattern-buyer, you could easily fall into this trap!

Woobles Kits vs. DIY Supplies: Which Is Better Value?

Ok, so let me jot down this info in a scannable table so you can get a clearer picture. When you compare side by side, the value of a Woobles kit becomes clear.

Let's say you go the DIY route. DIY Supplies can be cheaper if you already have yarn and tools, but if you're a complete beginner, you're likely to spend more time, money, and frustration figuring it all out.

For most beginners, the Woobles kit is worth the small extra cost. You get a guided experience, quality materials, and the confidence to complete a fun crochet project.

  • Ergonomic hook and high-quality yarn make learning easier.
  • Quick wins: you can finish a project without frustration.

  • Great for gifts or stress-free crafting.

Cons:

  • Slightly higher upfront cost than buying supplies separately.

If you value convenience, guidance, and guaranteed results, a Woobles kit is definitely worth it.

Hi. I'm May! Welcome to my Blog! Here you'll find easy crochet patterns, tutorials and simple crochet gift ideas you can offer your loved ones on special occasions.

  • I was an absolute beginner, and the Woobles kits taught me how to crochet. The videos were incredibly helpful, especially since I needed to rewind and watch so many times! Eventually, I got the hang of the basic stitches and started to want to branch out from amigurumi. I would never buy a kit now, but again, as someone starting from zero crochet knowledge, it was well worth it for me to learn at my own pace in my own home. And the yarn was so easy to work with as a beginner – never split, etc.

  • As I live in Canada it would not feasible to buy woobles if they are $30 to $5o USD. The price would be double since trump put the tariffs in place and I don’t have that kind of money throw around.

  • My take on the woobles (as long time crocheter 55+years), for a absolutely beginner yes I agree that they’re worth it because if you don’t like crochet after trying it you don’t have a bunch of stuff to get rid of BUT the woobles company doesn’t have alternatives for crocheters who already have everything (tools, yarn, etc) for them to get just the pattern/s they like and yes they did put out a book BUT it’s just on the basics. So for a newbie yes it’s worth it but for the rest of us not so much.
