Crochet flowers are one of the easiest and most fun projects for beginners. They’re quick to make, don’t use much yarn, and can be added to so many things—hats, scarves, bags, or even turned into beautiful home décor.
In this step-by-step tutorial, I’ll walk you through the process of crocheting a flower from start to finish, with plenty of pictures to guide you.

Abbreviations Used in This Tutorial
- ch = chain
- MC = Magic Circle
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- st = stitch
- sts = stitches
- fo = fasten off

10 rows and 15 sts in hdc with a 4.5 mm hook = 10 cm x 10 cm (4" x 4").
Size
Approx. 5 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter.
Yardage
Approx. = 5-7 meters (5.5 to 7.5 yards)

Notes
- You can make the pattern larger or smaller by changing the type of yarn and/or hook size.
- Numbers at the end of each row (in brackets) indicate the number of final stitches in that row.
- Turning chain does not count as a stitch.

Simple Flower Pattern Instructions
Round 1:
Option 1: Work 5 sc into a MC (5). Pull your magic circle closed and sl st to the first sc of Round 1.
Note: If you don't know how to crochet a magic circle, watch this video to learn how the easy way:

Pull your circle closed

Sl st to the first sc of Round 1.
Option 2: If you're really not keen on the Magic Circle, you can Chain 2, then work 5 single crochets into the second chain from your hook. Sl st to the first sc of Round 1.
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc into each stitch around (10). Sl st into the top of the first sc.
Note: the Ch 1 in Round 2 does not count as a stitch.

Leave a 4" tail, cut your yarn and fasten off.
Round 3: Attach white (or any contrasting color). [work a sc and 2 dc into the same stitch, then 2 dc and a sc into the next stitch]. Repeat 5 times. You'll have 5 flower petals.

Sl st to the bottom of the first sc of this round to join.

Leave a 6" tail, cut your yarn and fasten off.
