Bottom Half
Note: Ch 2 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch.
Round 1: With white, work a MC, ch 2. 6 dc into the MC. Pull your MC closed. Sl st to the first dc to join (6).

Round 2: 2 dc into each stitch around. Sl st to join (12).

Round 3: Ch 2, [inc, dc into next st] x 6. Sl st to join (18).

Round 4: Ch 2, [inc, dc into next 2 sts] x 6. Sl st to join (24).

Check to see that your styrofoam bauble fits snuggly into your crocheted piece.

Leave a long 10" tail, cut your yarn and fasten off.
Read this whole section before you start: Thread the white tail with your darning needle. Whip stitch the top and bottom half of your bauble together. (Place top and bottom sections of your bauble next to each other so that the sts where you fastened off align. Stitch through both loops of each stitch of R 4 of the bottom half of your bauble and one loop of each stitch between Rounds 5 & 6 of the top half of your bauble. Do not stitch too tightly. Stitch about 10 sts, then insert your styrofoam bauble to check size. Continue to stitch around until you are left with 8 sts. Secure this last st by stictching into it a couple more times, then bring your needle to the top of your santa hat through the beginning MC. You can use your remaining strand to hang your bauble.

Weave in the other end.
Stick 2 googly eyes, stick-on eyes, or safety eyes on the styrofoam ball from the opening. You could also just draw 2 dots with a permanent marker if you don't have these eyes.
