Easy Pumpkin Earrings Crochet Pattern

Fall is in the air, and what better way to celebrate the season than with some cute, handmade pumpkin earrings?

This pattern is great if you're new to crochet or just looking for a quick, festive project.

With this easy pumpkin earring crochet pattern, you’ll have made adorable earrings in under an hour, that you can wear to a Halloween party, gift to a friend or just wear for fun!

Materials Needed

• DK Cotton or Acrylic yarn in orange & green. I used Sheepjes (Colour Crafter Anti-Pilling)
• 3 mm crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• A tiny bit of stuffing or yarn scraps.
• Amigurumi safety eyes, stick-on eyes, or a couple of fiber art beads (optional)
• Earring Hooks
• A pair of scissors

Abbreviations Used in Pattern

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• scblo = single crochet in back loop only
• st = stitch

These earrings measure about 2 cm (0.7") in diameter.

13 stitches and 11 rows = 5 cm x 5 cm (2") in single crochet

Easy Pumpkin Earrings Crochet Pattern

R1: With orange yarn, tie a sl knot on your hook, ch 6 (6)

R2: Sc into the second ch from your hook to the end of the chain, ch 1, turn (5)

R 3-10: scblo into each chain across (5) 8 rows

Leave a 4” tail, cut yarn and fasten off.

Top 

Thread tail into your darning needle.

Sew the top of your pumpkin head using a running stitch (weave in & out).

Pull tightly to gather and close the top part of the pumpkin.

Seam 

Continue to join the two sides of your pumpkin with your darning needle using a matress stitch (stitch into the inner loops only to make the ridge stand out with the raised "v" shapes). (5)

Stem & Earring Hooks

You have 2 options to attach the earring hooks to the stem:

1. Using your crochet hook to insert the yarn through the earring's jump ring.

2. Using pliers to open the jump ring and hook it onto the top of the stem.

Option 1:

With green yarn, tie a slip knot on your hook leaving a 4" tail, ch2, leave a 6” tail and cut your yarn.

Insert your yarn tail into the jump ring (circular opening) of the earring holder.

With your hook, yarn over from the other side of the earring holder and pull up a loop, ch 2. Fasten off. You will have 5 chains with your earring holder attached to the middle chain.

Tie green top (stem) to the top of your pumpkin head by inserting the 2 strands into place with your darning needle. Ensure you do not insert both strands into the same stitch. Leave one or two stitches in between. If you notice that your top is not closed tightly, this is your opportunity to close it with the green strands.

Tie a double knot to secure from inside the pumpkin head.

Option 2:

With green yarn, tie a slip knot on your hook, ch 5, leave a 4" tail, cut yarn and fasten off.

Fold the chain in half and sew either end to the top of the pumpkin.

Use your pliers to open the jump ring and attach to the middle chain of the stem. Close your jump ring carefully using your pliers.

Features 

Hold up your earring and check where the front of the pumpkin face should be. If using amigurumi safety eyes, insert in the 3rd stitch from the bottom and directly opposite seam (so that seam is at back of head). Leave one ridge in between the two eyes. Make sure they are securely attached from the back.

Alternatively, you could glue on goggly eyes, sew on a couple of fiber art beads for eyes, add a French Knot or simply draw 2 dots with a permanent marker for eyes. If using any of the glue-on methods, you may add the eyes as a last step.

Lightly stuff your pumpkin with fiberfill or some yarn scraps. Do not overstuff.

Tuck the green tails into the pumpkin and sew the bottom of the pumpkin closed with a running stitch (same as top). Pull tightly to ensure it is closed well. 

Shaping 

Now Insert your darning needle through the bottom of your pumpkin to the top center (vertically), catch a stitch and pull it back out the bottom center to create the distinctive squashed pumpkin shape.

If your pumpkin top is not closed tight enough, then sew it closed with your tapestry/darning needle before you pull it through the bottom.

Cut your yarn leaving a short tail and weave in your ends.
